Molo Farmers Benefit from Expert Knowledge on Boosting Milk Production.

Despite its high potential for dairy farming, Molo, like many highland areas in Kenya, has been hindered by a lack of technical knowledge among farmers. This has often resulted in low milk production, limiting the income potential for many households. To address this challenge, the 3E organization has been working to equip farmers with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively manage their dairy cows. By providing training and technical assistance, the organization aims to improve milk production and quality, ultimately enhancing the livelihoods

The 3E organization, through the  Milk Bora project,  brought international expertise in the area to transform the dairy production. Bartolome Owono Owono, a Ph.D. holder in Agricultural Sciences and Biotechnology and a research collaborator at the  University of Udine recently visited Molo to share his knowledge with local farmers. His extensive knowledge in animal production can transform the dairy sector in Molo and Kenya at large.

His trip to Kenya, specifically to Molo, was a technical-scientific support mission to local farmers with the aim of increasing milk production by 20% and reaching 50% of farmers who adopt good animal production practices. By visiting farmers and interacting directly with farmers, he was able to assess their current practices and provide tailored advice mainly on Optimizing feed quality and quantity to enhance milk production, ensuring cows receive adequate water, Maintaining clean and sanitary conditions in cow sheds and ensuring proper and efficient daily routines for optimal milk production.

This valuable knowledge transfer has the potential to significantly impact the livelihoods of Molo farmers. By increasing milk production and quality, farmers can generate higher incomes, improve their families’ well-being, and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

3E organization remains dedicated to empowering rural communities through sustainable and innovative solutions in the dairy sector. By fostering partnerships with external  experts, the organization aims to transform the dairy industry in Molo and beyond.

“My presence in Molo, the visits to the farms and the recommendations given to each of these farmers was important, not only to guide them towards increasing bovine milk production by first studying the possible factors that limit it, but also for the adoption of sustainable practices at the environmental, economic and social level, considering the importance of rural development, where the well-being and standard of living of farmers plays an important role. Having seen the numerous deficiencies in the current production model in Molo, we can begin to provide practical support based on what actually exists. respecting the traditional and cultural values ​​that characterize the area, and possibly proposing improvements within the framework of the existing relationship between MANI TESE and his local partner 3E, and the department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Udine.”
